PIREP - Stark Avionics

As much of you, I appreciate pireps from those with knowledge about shops you employ (bad or good) and love to offer my experience for that contemplation on others at the same time. After a so-so experience after a recent avionics install, I discovered myself looking for the best alternate avenue for your installing a new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The price of one was high i actually busted out laughing over the phone as though I were at the comedy bar. He was apparently less amused while i. I was telling the storyline of my local quote to some friend in the airport anf the husband recommended that I call John Stark at Stark Avionics for any quote. In doing my required research before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps on the shop. In the process, I ran across a totally terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you would like to read it). This pirep caused me serious worry about whether or not to call Stark for a quote.

I posted a general query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and i also spoke regarding his experience with Stark i decided to give John a phone call depending on the two recommendations I received from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns concerning the negative pirep on MS has I used to be gun shy in line with the previous experience. As they always say, there's 2 sides to each story and John took his time and energy to explain his side if you ask me much like me certain he can be prepared to do with someone else who want to call him in that regard. Our conversation shifted in the pirep to pricing. John and i also discussed different equipment options, what might best suit my needs/wants and also the flat rate installed price per option. We ultimately chose to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted us a soft price, but was beforehand the number might be slightly higher if the tray was riveted in (as much Mooneys are). I went to manchester airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were attached with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in a really timely manner and confirmed the flat fee price for your equipment and install in writing so we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane ended up being to be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said however have everything else but ready by Tuesday, however i opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in the event there was some snags on the way.
